 Genny Albitre
Genny was born in 1956 and was raised in the Southern San Joaquin Valley, California. Growing up in the foothills near Granite Station where the oilfields met the winter grazing land for many cattle ranches in the surrounding mountains, her family lived in a home that hauled drinking water in, had no phone, and the nearest neighbor was 3 miles away. Retired ranch horses and a few wild donkeys from Nevada offered after school entertainment for her and her two brothers and two sisters. She also had the good fortune of spending many summers on a working cattle ranch owned and operated by R.O. (Remick Obispo) Albitre located on Greenhorn Mountain which is situated just northwest of Bakersfield, California. These early experiences firmly established a love and understanding of a western way of life that now is quickly fading.
Genny has lived in Nevada for 20+ years and currently lives in Elko, Nevada with her husband of 33 years, James Albitre. She uses the local Ruby Mountains as well as her own horses as inspiration for her work. After painting a landscape as a gift for a friend, her work became known and requests were made for more. She first painted a landscape for her home church and then started this website to handle her portfolio and offer her paintings for sale to the public.
